The words ‘SAPA‘ or ‘SHEGE‘ are slangs which are common among youths in Nigeria. These slangs are mostly used on the social media most especially by the Gen-Z. In general sense, ‘SAPA’ means or denotes poverty. Explicitly, ‘SAPA’ is a feeling of incapacity in financial matters or, in many cases, a relative lack of wealth. On the other hand, ‘SHEGE’ is the unit for measuring ‘SAPA’ at a point in time, meaning ‘SAPA’ can get more intense and turn into ‘SHEGE’.

‘The Faitheroic Generation‘ was setup for engaging in digital marketing and other entrepreneurial skills for persons who are poised to become successful. It’s a network marketing company that was registered with CAC in the year 2018. The business is regarded as a 2 in 1 business in the sense that, you can make money as a freelancer on Fiverr or Upwork and in turn, invest the money you make into the NEOLIFE business. The OAUFHG is a division of the Faitheroic Generation and it is headed by a Team leader.

Furthermore, the more you invest into the business, the more your Point Value often referred to as ‘PV’ increases, the higher you move in hierarchy which is from “newbie to director”.

An uproar was caused on “X formerly known as Twitter” on Monday, 21st August from a user on the microblogging app who decided to share her experience with FHG/NEOLIFE business. According to her, ‘@Thelateefat’ narrates her ordeals while she wanted to quit the FHG/NEOLIFE business.

She stopped doing the business when all was not really going as planned, as she was not getting enough from the money she was making because technically, 80% of the money was for Product, and 20% was for upkeep. This was coupled with the fact that her sponsor forgot the login details to her Fiverr account and misplaced the SIM card for withdrawals, and he does not feel bad about it. No leader blamed him for what he did, he was not punished or questioned, which makes her think about what they would have done to her or any other member in our position, considering they are at a lower stage.

Her rants on what she went through after deciding to finally leave the business caused a stir on the X app as various users began to share their own stories and point of views which eventually led to the business name ‘NEOLIFE’ trending in the NO 1 trend table of the microblogging app.

Consequently, a space was created on Tuesday, 22nd of August to discuss about the business, its operations and the effects it has had on the students.

A critical analysis by ACJOAU Correspondent is that joining NEOLIFE business can be a step out of ‘SAPA’ or a step into ‘SHEGE’. As earlier said that the business is a network oriented one, there is a need to network with various types of human which can determine if you are stepping out of ‘SAPA’ or stepping into ‘SHEGE’.

Also, in a survey carried out by ACJOAU, it was discovered that at least 9 out of 10 OAU students have encountered being asked to join the business whether by a student who is currently a member or by just a random text on WhatsApp for the purpose of financial freedom and independent, learning skills or cajoling students with the popular saying ‘school na scam’ and that most students do not even know what to do after school. While a few agree to join the business at first encounter, some students get visited up to 3-4 times before they finally agree and others who have already erased their minds from joining such business due to different scenarios that have ensued about the business later see the consistent coming of such member to introduce them to the business as harassment.

Joining The Business

After joining the business, one will be assigned to a sponsor or team leader who has other team members or downlines assigned to him or her. In a situation where your sponsor or team leader of your office are selfish individuals, you are on a way into stepping into ‘SHEGE’. Because the ‘SAPA’ you are experiencing before is about to get upgraded into an ultimate ‘SHEGE’.

According to the FHG guidelines, “a member earning and subsequent shall be controlled by the team leader or a Senior Manager in his team line. His spending shall be subject to an approval from the team leader or Senior Manager before such funds can be cleared for withdrawal”. This part of the rule gives the upline a privilege over the downline. And in a situation whereby the downline earns money from the online business, he can’t make decision on how to spend the money on his/her own with the approval from his sponsor or team leader.

The whole essence of the NEOLIFE business, which is to end the trend of poor wellness and poverty is however stained as most members continue to live in abject poverty and frustration because of the inability to spend their own money on themselves. Nevertheless, the claims of the Upline handling the finances of the downline was because it was believed or said that some members tend to run away from the business or spend money lavishly after making their first huge amount of money.

However, it can be a step out of ‘SAPA’ if your sponsor or team leader can be understanding and human. If he/she can realize that you are grown up person who is old enough to make decision on his/her own, you will definitely enjoy the business. The sponsor should served as a leader who is to lead and guide the downline and not impose his/her will on the downline. The dividend of the business is to network and grow together.

For every business one steps in, there is always a parting day whereby one can decides to leave the business. Leaving NEOLIFE should not be a problem, if truly the core values are to be followed. It is a business that one joined voluntarily and one should be able to leave voluntarily also without any rancour.
