The Most Beautiful Girl on OAU Campus, in conjunction with Babafaros Entertainment and Great Ife Students’ Union, held a press conference on Thursday, November 16th at the Student Union Building TV Room to announce the second edition of the Most Beautiful Girl on OAU Campus Beauty Pageant. The pageant, tagged ‘The Trailblazer’, is powered by Forerunners Creativity and Innovation (FCI).

Present at the Press Conference were members of the Forerunners Creativity and Innovation, Ayomitide Ilori and Ogundipe Damilola as The Queen Mother and Queen Father respectively. The board members and team members of MBGOAU, the Vice-president of the Union, Adekoya Omoyosola, the members of the press and several students.

The Queen mother in her warm welcome speech shed light on the peculiarities of the second edition, which was tagged the ‘Trailblazer Edition’. The event is centered around the theme ‘Bold, Intellectual And Beautiful’ (BIB) represented by the colors blue, black, and red. The event has four stages – Online Voting, Viewers’ Choice, Marketing, and a two-day Grand Finale which will feature a Trade Fair and a Preliminary Show on the first day, and the main day where the FCI Awards will be presented.

She put out a call for brands interested in sponsoring the event. She explained that during the marketing phase, each contestant will represent a particular sponsoring brand and create social media content to promote the brand. The organizers will reward the contestants with the highest engagement with a special gift, and the brand may offer ambassadorial deals to them.

Speaking further, the Queen spoke about how the event is aimed at bringing together the diverse student community. She explained that all Directors of Socials in the Faculty Association have been notified to encourage inclusivity. The Form Fee for this year’s event is N1000, which is lower than last year’s N2000. Collection of the fee will begin on Thursday and will continue until the 30th of November. After which the audition follows 

Furthermore, there are mouthwatering prizes to be won at the event which include N300,000, a plot of land, a mystery box, and ambassadorial deals for the winner;  N200,000, half plot of land, a mystery box, and ambassadorial deals for the first runner-up; and N100,000, a mystery box, and ambassadorial deals for the second runner-up. Although there will be a long list of seven winners, only the first three will be awarded.

During the Q&A session, the Queen Mother was asked about the motivation behind the second edition of the event. She explained that there is a need for female students on campus to have a role model, a figure they can emulate and aspire to be. In her words, ‘The pageantry was birthed by a desire to create solutions to the immediate problem that ladies are facing’.

Regarding concerns about the event potentially affecting self-esteem, the Queen Mother, clarified that the pageantry is designed to help people overcome shyness and build confidence by providing a platform for them to showcase their talents and abilities. The goal is to encourage attendees to step out of their comfort zones and feel empowered, rather than discouraged.
