The Electoral Commission of the Technology And Engineering Students’ Association (TESA) on Friday 11th of March, 2022 lifted the ban on the long expected electioneering activities of the faculty association for the 2021/2022 academic session.

Background Story

The last general election for the faculty association was in 2019 for the 2018/2019 academic session, which ushered in the Bankole Oluwasegun, popularly known as Specter led administration. The 2019/2020 election didn’t hold because of the long COVID-19 and ASUU strike breaks in 2020 and the mode of learning after resumption in 2021.

The remaining executives from the 2018/2019 administration took the leadership as ‘Acting’ for the 2019/2020 academic session. Adeniyi John Oluwasegun, popularly known as Johnny, who was the Vice President 1 for the 2018/2019 academic session, was ratified by the TESA Students Representatives Council (TSRC) to take the leadership as the Acting President for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Late Constitution Of Electoral Commission

In the late hours of Thursday 3rd of March, 2022, there was a call out by a student directed to the Ag. President on one of the WhatsApp Pages of the faculty over the late constitution of the electoral commission. This call out led to some textual abuse on the page.

On Tuesday 8th of March, 2022, a release from the TSRC signed by the Ag. Speaker, Adeyera Aanuoluwapo and Clerk, Lawal Azeez, notifying members and honorables of the faculty about a sitting to hold on Thursday, 10th of March, 2022, where the ratification of the Electoral and Audit Committee, distribution of Certificates to Honorables and dissolution of the parliament will be done.

This sitting led to the ratification of the 2021/2022 Electoral Commission with Ajani Rasheed as the Chairman, Taiwo Olumide as the General Secretary and Oluwatola Joshua as the Public Relations Officer.
