The Faculty of Arts has emerged the champion in the Male category of the 2024 Freshmen Sports Fiesta Football competition, which concluded with a thrilling final match on Tuesday, February 4th held at the Mainbowl of the University’s Sports Complex. In a nail-biting penalty shootout, the Faculty of Arts narrowly defeated the Faculty of Science with a score of 4-3.
The highly anticipated final met the expectations, as both teams displayed exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork. After a fiercely contested 90 minutes, the score remained tied at 0-0, necessitating a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
During the penalty shootout, the Faculty of Arts showed remarkable composure and accuracy, successfully converting four out of six spot kicks. The Faculty of Science, despite their valiant efforts, managed to convert only three of their attempts.
With this victory, the Faculty of Arts claimed the championship title and trophy for the 2024 Freshmen Sports Fiesta Soccer competition.
Ajakaye, the captain of the Faculty of Arts team, expressed his joy and gratitude, stating, “I return the glory to God, as it’s not easy to emerge victorious from the group stage to the qualifiers. It’s only possible with God’s help.”

When asked about his leadership strategy, Ajakaye shared, “I’ve always believed in not giving up, and my team shares that same belief. We motivated ourselves to stay strong until the final whistle.”
Discussing the team’s prospects, Ajakaye said, “This win shows that we’re ready for any upcoming competition. We’ve grown stronger mentally, and I believe we will continue to succeed.”
Azeez, a standout player for the Faculty of Arts, expressed his excitement over the victory: “I’m thrilled and truly feel like a winner! The best part of today is that the school’s team coach called for me to meet later.”
Azeez attributed the team’s success to teamwork and perseverance, saying, “We never gave up, and our coach had a significant impact on our performance.”
When reflecting on proud moments, Azeez mentioned, “Our goalkeeper made a crucial save that not only kept us in the game but also earned us the trophy.”
