As the Great Ife Students’ Union (GISU) begins her 5-day orientation programme for the freshmen, A former Secretary-General of the Union, J.M Etebom has charged the newly Union officers to be accountable to the students, deliver their duties diligently.
Etebom gave this charge in his address at the orientation programme which was held on Wednesday, 16th, March 2022 at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University.
The former Secretary-General, while sanitizing the freshmen on their rights as OAU students said, “All students have a right to good transportation and a cult-free learning environment. Every student is a member of the students’ union”.
Also speaking, A former Chief Security Officer of the union, Mr Adeleke Olorunwa(God dey), shared his experience on campus politics. He advised the union officials to work on their shortcomings.
“The primary assignment of students on campus is their academics. Therefore, ensure that you face your academics diligently”, Adeleke urged.
Mr Ogumah Segun (Karl Marx), A former Speaker of the Representative Council enlightened the freshmen on what the Students’ Union entails. In his words, “the student Union is made up of the students and they should be involved in the activities of the union.”
He charged the union officers not to forsake the custom and traditions on campus which include the Aro tradition. He encouraged them to discharge their duties with an energetic spirit in bringing about a systemic change.
The Panelists at the programme are Tolulope Oguntayo, Àjàyí Oluwafemi (FM Castro), Farombi Olúwaṣeun (babafaros) and Zanny casuals.
Other attendees were members of the Central Executive Council of the union, Hall Representatives, members of the Student Representative Council, the Chief Security Officer of the university, Mr Oyatokun and other officials of the university.
