The leadership of the Great Ife Students’ Union announced in a release on Sunday, November 2, that due to past events and a continued commitment to the utmost safety of the residents of Moremi Hall of residence, the Welfare Officer has secured support from The Boys Community, led by Arogs, to ensure that the corridors and surroundings of Moremi Hall get proper lighting.
According to the release, the Union has commenced the replacement of all bulbs and faulty lamp holders in the Hall, as well as the replacement of faulty LED ceiling lights in some blocks. Four blocks’ corridors have been completed, and they also extended their thanks to the excellent cooperation and warm reception from the Moremi Hall Executives. The Union stated that the project will continue across all halls.

Furthermore, the release added that the Students’ Union remains committed to the overall welfare and safety of the students. The Boys Community was appreciated for its support, and the opportunity was used to invite others to join this initiative, as the security of the students is their priority.
The Initiative is Not Limited to Moremi Hall – Welfare Director
Speaking to the Welfare Director of the Students’ Union, Musab Okunola, he clarified that the initiative is not limited to Moremi Hall alone, as there are plans in place for other halls. According to him, the problem with most halls of residence is that there are no lights around them. He said, ‘We are looking to put halogen lamps around some hostels, especially Akintola, Moremi, and Mozambique (at the back of Mozambique), which have had issues when people resume.’ He added, ‘This will eradicate the problem of not recognising those who are entering or leaving the halls at night.’ According to him, after Moremi Hall, they have checked Akintola Hall and will be preparing to fix the light bulbs along the corridors and around the exterior of the halls.
