International Afrobeats sensation and OAU alumnus, Ahmed Ololade (Asake), joined by Nigerian celebrities and entertainment icons Yhemolee and Korty EO, paid a brief midday visit to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) on Monday, 22nd December.
Asake was accompanied by his fellow alumnus Idowu Adeyemi (Yhemolee), Eniola Korty Olanrewaju (Korty) and his crew, who visited the university as a gesture of goodwill and respect for their alma mater, making a grand return long after their graduation.
The unexpected visit attracted a large crowd of students who rushed to catch a glimpse of the award-winning artist. Students were seen cheering, singing along to his songs, recording videos, and expressing excitement as Asake moved through the campus.

Upon arrival, he and his crew first paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, at his office in the Senate Building, before proceeding to meet the already expectant crowd of students at the university’s Amphitheatre around 4 p.m.

The Afrobeats star and his entourage were received with an electrifying performance by students of the Department of Dramatic Arts, the department from which he earned his degree. He then joined in shortly after by playing the drums, and also offered a short greeting to the students before departing for the Ooni’s Palace.

Tolulope Philip, a Part Four student of the Department of Dramatic Arts who took part in the welcome performance, said, ‘I was part of the drummers in the orchestra organised by my department to welcome Asake. It was a glorious one for drama students, particularly with Asake being a rounded performer like we are. The most memorable part for me and the highlight of my day as a drummer was when he played the djembe with us. I have always heard of his prowess, but it was mesmerising seeing him play in person because he still played very much like he’s still very much got it. I was not surprised that he couldn’t help but stand from his seat the moment he entered, and we started playing drums.’
Precious Obafemi, one of the excited students present to cheer Asake, shared her experience. She said, ‘I went to campus today just to see my favourite artist, Asake. I did not believe it at first when I saw news flying around of him coming. Then, I heard a chopper in my room. That was when I believed he was truly here.’
She added, ‘I cannot express how I am feeling right now. I was more than one hundred per cent happy to see him. I saw Asake for free instead of paying 300k, do you know what that means? I am lonely at the top right now. OAU for a reason!’
Asake’s visit, although brief, created a buzz across the campus and on social media, with videos and photos of the moment circulating widely among students. The appearance has since remained a major topic of discussion among students, marking one of the most exciting celebrity moments recently witnessed at Obafemi Awolowo University.
