On Wednesday, July 16th, a popular Nigerian Afrobeats artiste, Kosoko Adekunle Adekunle Gold, rekindled tensions with Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), revealing he still hasn’t moved past an alleged assault he suffered at the institution a decade ago (June 2015).
According to a 2023 report by ACJOAU, Adekunle Gold was accused of performing his debut song, “Sade,” six times during an event held at the university at that time.
Sharing a photo with the caption “God forgives, I don’t,” the singer cautioned OAU alumni with a post through his X account (formerly Twitter), warning them not to participate in his giveaway for first-class graduates, stating firmly that they would not be considered.

This sparked different reactions from his fans, random X users, and OAU students, who once again found themselves in the spotlight. While some were curious to know the reason behind his grudge with the school, the others, aware of the background story, joked about it, and the repentant alumni appealed for him to let bygones be bygones.

Omoboriowo Damilola Dr. Bush, the erstwhile President of the Great IFE Students’ Union, along with several other X users, also responded to Adekunle Gold’s post.

Adekunle Gold, however, acknowledged alumni from other universities who presented proof of their First Class degrees, crediting them ₦250,000 each. This gesture was met with numerous appreciation posts directed at the international artist.
