The Final Year Brethren (FYB) Week essentially serves as a fashion runway for graduating students on the Obafemi Awolowo University campus. The soon-to-be graduates get to come out in style and rock a variety of outfits that they have had in mind or even in store from way back, just for the event.
Conversely, some do not put much thought into it and just make do with whatever they lay their hands on. Regardless of which, this year’s celebration was not short of glamour. Finalists from various departments of the university pulled up in grand style to observe the sessional tradition and collectively share in their long-awaited sense of achievement.

The FYB week has a designated code for each day: The Corporate Day, Denim Day, Jersey Day, Costume Day, and Traditional Day. Distinguished in style and fashion, Cosy JL, a final year Dramatic Arts student and award-winning campus artiste, shares how she styled herself and the story behind her outfits all through these “Days,” during the FYB Week:
Cosy: I picked the corporate fit from my closet. I wanted something that has that Cosy signature and still looks cute, while still looking corporate.
Cosy: For the second day, I made the Denim outfit overnight. I just took some of my old jeans and rebranded them, making a bralet and a short skirt from them.
Cosy: As for the third day, I’m not a Manchester United fan, but I like the colour red and the way it appears on my skin. So, I decided to merge it with a corset and a short skirt. Mini outfits are like my signature look.

Cosy: For the costume day, I made the outfit that same day. I checked my wardrobe as usual, and then I saw a jacket I could turn into something. I wanted to achieve a fairy, I just like the concept.
Cosy: As for the traditional day, I just decided to go as an Edo princess. I love to look like a princess, because I’m a princess.
The whole experience was fun, but also very stressful. I wanted to stop because I had to make some of my outfits the day I was going to wear them. I am quite surprised I did it to the end. The realisation that I will only get to be a final year student once and participate once was what kept me going, and I am glad it went well.
