The Transport Management Commission of the Great Ife Students’ Union issued a notice on Wednesday, 28 January, regarding the temporary suspension of transport services that will be observed on Thursday, 29 January. This suspension is due to the official visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to OAU on Thursday, 29 January.
According to a release by the school management on 27 January, the visit is to witness the official commissioning and handover of fifty (50) tricycles and ten (10) motorbikes, generously donated by Her Excellency, as well as the official commissioning and handover of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre by His Imperial Majesty, Ọọni Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ọọni of Ife.

The TMC’s statement revealed that motorcycle operations will be suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additionally, campus bus services will be halted during the First Lady’s presence on campus, in line with security and official protocol requirements.
Alternative Plans
The Transport Management Commission acknowledged that they are well aware of the inconvenience this situation will cause for students and the entire OAU community. It further stated that arrangements are underway for students and others who may be affected to facilitate movement during this period. This is necessary because students in various departments are currently taking tests and will most likely be adversely affected by the disruption. The TMC stated that further information will be communicated as soon as the arrangements are finalised.
