A 39-year-old professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U.), Segun Aina, has been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
His appointment was announced on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in a State House press release signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Aina is a distinguished academic and systems expert with wide experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.

The release added that he began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps year, where he gained foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would bring his experience, knowledge, and practical insight into the operations of the board while building on the achievements of his predecessor.
Aina, who became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors at 39, is set to become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.
What We Know About Professor Segun Aina
Professor Segun Aina, who will be 40 years old in July 2026, obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, in 2008, before proceeding to Loughborough University, where he earned an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security in 2009 and later a PhD in Digital Signal Processing.
In 2010, after completing his NYSC with JAMB as a computer systems engineer/analyst, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Limited, an IT services and engineering project management company.
Aina has also consulted for several private and public institutions, including the Job Creation Unit, Office of the Vice President, state governments, and examination bodies. His work has covered ICT systems, examination integrity, digital process optimisation, and institutional reform.
Before he was appointed as JAMB Registrar, Aina had drawn attention within and outside OAU after becoming one of Nigeria’s youngest professors at 39 in December 2025.
In an earlier interview with ACJOAU, he said attaining professorship before 40 was a goal he had planned and worked towards, having completed his PhD before the age of 30.
Speaking on the habits that shaped his rise, Aina noted that his journey required not just hard work but smart work, especially in balancing research, lectures, meetings, administrative responsibilities, and promotion requirements.
He also described himself as passionate about Nigeria, saying he deliberately chose to return and build his career in the country after spending years abroad.
On the legacy he hopes to leave in OAU and the Nigerian education system, Aina said one of his major passions is building a bridge between academia and industry, especially because students trained in classrooms are eventually expected to function in companies and the larger professional world.
Professor Aina is a COREN-registered engineer and a member of professional bodies, including the Nigerian Computer Society, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
