The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University (MSSN-OAU) has unveiled the new set of executives for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The announcement was made after the Jumat Service on Friday 9th of June, 2023 at the University’s Central Mosque of Unity by the Shuro Committee Chairman, Azeez Abdulrahman.
Speaking with ACJOAU, the new Ameer, Abdulhameed Araromi, a part 4 student of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering disclosed that his appointment comes with mixed emotions.
Araromi who is currently on Industrial Training Attachment said, “I feel afraid of the high expectation and at the same time feel it’s a position where I can develop myself. But I accepted it, knowing with the help of Allah, I will be able to do it”.
He feels that being the Ameer of all the Muslim students on OAU campus is a responsibility. “The post all spelt a sense of responsibility. Making crucial decisions for every Muslim student and representing the Muslim student’s interest. It’s an opportunity for growth,” he says.
Abdulhameed plans to promote unity enjoyed by the students and encourage a community where Muslim students develop their Islamic knowledge and leadership skills.
While he aims to have an organization where MSSN OAU continually evaluate the evolving needs of Muslim students, he promised that his led administration would be open to feedback to ensure that all plans for the Muslim students are inclusive and responsive to their needs.
When asked about his plans for the synergy between the MSSN OAU and the OAU Muslim community in general, he stated,
“This, however, won’t be possible without the support of the Muslim community. Their support has over the years been important in the success of each administration. So, it’s just quite reasonable for the new administration to continue with peaceful coexistence. We would need their advice to move forward because they are the ones with the experience”.
