Students are to resume academic activities on Tuesday, 19 May, following the end of the institution’s three-week mid-semester break.
The decision was contained in an internal memorandum released on 17 May by the Senate Division of the university and was addressed to all Deans of Faculties. The memo stated that the university Senate approved the resumption after reviewing issues that led to the temporary suspension of academic activities.

According to the statement, the 3-week break was introduced to allow the university administration enough time to address concerns surrounding the newly introduced transportation system and related matters affecting students and members of the university community.
The break began on 28 April after a protest erupted over transportation challenges and other related concerns within the institution. The development led to tensions on campus and prompted the university management to suspend academic activities temporarily while consultations and engagements with stakeholders were ongoing.
In the memorandum, the Senate noted that the concerns arising from the situation had been ‘sufficiently addressed’ following deliberations that were held during a special Senate meeting on Thursday, 14 May.
The statement further confirmed that all academic activities would commence immediately upon students’ return to campus on Tuesday.
The management also directed Deans and relevant officers to take necessary actions in line with the Senate’s resolution.
