A man, disguising himself as a Muslim cleric(Alfa), was arrested on September 6, 2024, on the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus. He was apprehended for scamming a student of ₦55,000.
The individual, who had previously scammed a student named Kafilat of ₦55,000 in November 2023, returned to the campus using the same deceptive tactics. The statement received from the Security Volunteer Unit of the Students’ Union stated that Kafilat was convinced that the self-acclaimed ‘cleric is a genuine man of God’, before she made the transaction.

Kafilat, recognizing the scammer on September 6th, played along and secretly captured evidence, leading to a swift response from the Security Volunteer Unit. The team devised a plan to lure the scammer, who eventually agreed to meet Kafilat on campus.
After a thorough search and pursuit, the scammer was apprehended near the Local Government Area of the University on September 6th, 2024 and the stolen ₦55,000 was successfully retrieved. He was taken to the office of the Security Unit of the Students’ Union.

The Security Volunteer Unit, therefore advised students to be vigilant at all times on OAU campus, and also inform the Unit of any suspicious movement of unfamiliar persons on OAU campus.
