The Postgraduate Students’ Association (PGSA) of Obafemi Awolowo University held its first general election on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, a significant moment for the newly formed association.
Voting was scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., but the process commenced fully at 10:37 a.m. when verification and ballot sorting began. Students turned out steadily throughout the day, with ballot papers issued for both the Central Executive Council (CEC) and the Postgraduate Students’ Parliamentary Council (PSPC).
The atmosphere was initially calm, and the process was smooth until around 2:25 p.m., when a heated argument broke out. An agent of one of the presidential candidates publicly accused a member of the Electoral Commission of canvassing on the election ground, an action against election guidelines. The disagreement escalated quickly and almost turned violent, drawing the attention of voters and officials. The Chairman of the Electoral Commission intervened and strongly defended the accused official, labelling the accusation as false and unnecessary. He also pointed out that the accuser had a history of raising false claims in the past. Security personnel and other voters eventually calmed the scene, allowing the election to continue.

By 2:37 p.m., voting officially ended, and counting began at 2:41 p.m.

Despite the mid-day tension, the election was largely successful, with results officially confirmed and accepted by evening.
