The Great Ife Students’ Union has issued a fresh directive concerning the organisation of activities for the upcoming Freshers’ Week, scheduled to take place next week. In a statement released on Friday, November 7, by the Vice President of the Union, Iyanoluwa Falade, the Union cautioned all associations, faculties, departments, religious groups, and indigenous student bodies against planning or hosting independent Freshers’ Week programmes.
The Vice President noted that the Union had become aware of attempts by some groups on campus to run parallel events alongside the official Freshers’ Week schedule. According to the release, this would not only distort coordination but could also weaken student participation and the sense of collective welcome intended for the newly admitted students.

To address this, the Union announced that no student body is permitted to conduct separate Freshers’ Week-related activities during the designated Union Freshers’ Week period. The statement emphasised that all events for welcoming new students will be centralised under the Students’ Union programme to ensure inclusivity, unity, and shared representation of the larger student community.
The Union’s leadership explained that the centralised approach is designed to foster maximum attendance, proper organisation, and a unified campus atmosphere, maintaining the long-standing identity of Great Ife as a community that values togetherness.
The statement ended with a call for cooperation from all student associations, urging them to contribute towards delivering a memorable and impactful Freshers’ Week experience. ‘Let us work together to celebrate unity, inclusiveness, and the true spirit of Great Ife,’ the Vice President added.
With the countdown already underway, attention now turns to the Union’s lineup of events and how well the coordinated structure will play out across campus.
