In an exclusive press conference, the Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University led by the Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Owelle Oscar Udoji has on Thursday, 17th 2022, announced Professor Simeon Bamire as the 12th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.
This announcement is necessary as the 11th substantive vice-chancellor of the University, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, is expected to hand over to his successor by June 7, 2022.
Professor Simeon Bamire is a professor of Agricultural Economics from the Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University.
Following the announcement of the new Vice-Chancellor of the University, some set of people confirmed to be Ife Indigenes have barricaded the campus gate of the University. This has led to the closure of the University’s main gate and restriction of movement in and out of the University campus.
It should be recalled that the Indigenes of ife has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to allow a competent son of the soil to be appointed as the next substantive Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University.
Information reaching ACJOAU as at the time of filing this report is that the University main gate has been reopened for movement.
