TESA-OAU: Director of Socials Tenders Resignation Letter But The CEC Says “Not Yet”

The Director of Socials of the Technology and Engineering Students’ Association of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Olaoye David ( Elemoh) has resigned from office.

The resignation was made public in a letter dated 13/05/2023 addressed to the Congress of TESA through General Secretary TESA
Chairman, CEC TESA, Members, CEC TESA, The Rt.Hon Speaker, TSRC, Clerk, TSRC, Members TSRC, Members, TESA of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

According to him, serving in the faculty’s student association has always been a dream right from his 100L days and he has made a pact to improve the social well-being of every member of the faculty down to using his resources.

He reflected that the recent incident has affected his life and that it is best to take some time off to rethink his positions about certain aspects of life and of course, suffer the consequences alone.

Elemoh further said; “I put pride in my personality so much that I would not want any negativity on it. I can’t continue to live a lie, the generality of TESA deserves to know that some factors were bent of frustrating my moves as an executive member – there is life outside TESA and these frictions in the Executive Council just like the one that broke out between the Chairman of the Central Executive Council (President) and I would not allow me serve well and I can not cause disservice to TESA.

Some elected officers no longer have common interest of the faculty at heart and I can no longer work in these unfavorable conditions.”

He apologized to the entire faculty for any negativity his name, and office has caused.

This is coming one week after a call out, in a now-deleted tweet, from one of the major sponsors of the Make It Count Conference organized by the Office of the Director of Socials, TESA over an allegedly giveaway flyer pushed out by some unknown individuals which was to be sponsored by the brand but later debunked after the conference.

Resignation Letter Is Put On Hold – Says CEC

Subsequently, the Central Executive Council of TESA has reacted to the resignation letter of the Director of Socials.

In a General Notice release signed by the President, Agunbiade Ademola and the General Secretary, Akanbi Akintunde, the council addressed the general public to disregard and discard the Information about the resignation of the Director Of Socials.

The release also stated categorically that the resignation letter of the Director of Socials is on hold and not granted until the end of the investigation over alleged constitutional aberration, gross misconduct and defamation of the association’s name and others by the office of the Director of Socials. It further revealed that the director of socials is under investigation by an investigative committee set up by the TSRC for these allegations.

As included in the release, ‘According to TESA OAU Constitution, Article VII, Section 53, Subsection I regarding the resignation of officer, it states that “Any officer who wishes to resign shall forward his resignation letter to the Congress through the General Secretary.” This is to explain that our sacrosanct constitution made it clear that any resignation has to be acknowledged by the General Secretary.’

However, Elemoh noted that he forwarded his resignation letter to the General Secretary of the association and that he has also responded to the requests made by the investigative committee.
