Technology: A Beast Changing Human’s Way Of Living

Days ago, I pondered in my heart, how difficult living in developing countries in the 50s and 60s was. Of course, if you were born in the 90s, your memory would not have failed you to know how people strive without technology, probably because it has not fully developed or not even present in their territory.

You can concur to the fact that, recently, technology has developed to the extent of changing the atmosphere of the earth. Comparing recent developments that technology has made, to how it was four decades ago, you can come to the conclusion that it has been so enormous to some point. Yes, even far more comparison.

An example is the common use of firewood to cook in the past, which has now been replaced with the use of coking gas, which have proved faster and convenient than the former.

To begin with, what is Technology? According to the dictionary, “technology is the application of scientific knowledge to the problem”. In my own words, I will define technology as “the use of scientific knowledge to change humans’ way of living”. It involves the invention of devices that makes use of scientific means to operate. Larger inventions like vehicles, aircrafts, have improved humans’ standard of living.

A critical look at some of the advantages that technology has brought to mankind made us realize how difficult it can be to connect with your workers, employers, friends and family without the invention of smart phones.

For the past three decades, the invention of technologically advanced devices no matter how small they can be, has improved human standard of living, either socially or economically. People now make use of phone to connect with their families, friends, employers or worker from their abode to every part of the world.

What if you think about how technology has reduced air pollution in the environment? The excess release of Carbon monoxide into the atmosphere, each time people burn carbonic substance in the olden days, has been reduced drastically by the invention of electric products and some solar product.

Furthermore, Artificial Intelligence(AI), one of the largest product of technology, has proved beneficial to human in some ways. However, it has also been at disadvantages on human who now depend on it for too long. Students reading this would probably remember sometimes, when they have assignment to do, but instead on working on the assignment on their own, they prefer to ease the stress on themselves by checking the famous Chat GPT for the answers to their assignment.

Though, it is very helpful and explanatory, but students have diverted their mentality and effortlessly focus their attention on Chat GPT- AI for assignments and even exams preparation.

A part of technology that has been excluded for a very long time is Nuclear Engineering. Though, it has some benefit to human in the area of generating electricity, propulsion of heavy ships and rockets. Nevertheless, overtime, the danger it poses on the environs proved to be more than the advantages when it comes to the emission of radiations. These radiations, when exposed to the environment, have long-term effects on the environment may case incurable diseases in the environment, e.g Hiroshima attack.

The young ones known as “Leaders Of Tomorrow” are now becoming too addicted to smart phones. Everyone is looking for a phone to be visible online. A nine years old child has become so addicted, that he/she is looking for every possible way to be online on Facebook. As the technology keep improving, it becomes worse for the child to keep intact with technologically enhanced devices such as phones, laptops and others.

Even as I ponder, a question flashed through my mind that says “has the invention of technology done more harm to human than good”? There is probably an assumption, that the same thought runs through your mind also.

However, Gen-z scientist and technologist have done so well to improve the working conditions of their products. Although, it is left to the users of the products.
