Students’ Union: Encouraging Students Participation In Union Activities

Students actively involved in Students’ Union activities is one of the core things that the Union officers must pursue. They must see to the fact that every students is fully involved in the activities of the Union and they must constantly be reminded that they are the Union themselves.

The Students’ Union is a student body, whose duty is to adequately represent the interest of the students, It is a voluntary representative body that allow students that are passionate about the Well-being, Sports, Social lives, Welfarism amongst others, to ably represent their peers. It can also be regarded to as an incubating stage of socio-political leadership experience where students can learn the rudiments of how people, states and nations are governed.

However, being passionate as an individual is not enough to hold a position at the Students’ Union level, as just like a democratic society, your fellow students are given the voting power to choose the leader that they want. This can only mean that, to attain your desired position, there must have been some level of trust that the students must have in you before they choose you as their representative.

The political nature of the Students’ Union gives students priority above anyone else. Active students participation in the Students’ Union activities is needed to drug the change you would like to see in your institution.

Therefore, students taking active roles in the Union activities will enable you as a leader to interact with students from different backgrounds and this can only result to a strong, long lasting relationship between the Union and students.

There are, however, some setback in making sure students are actively involved in the activities of the Union. You must know that in discharging your duty as a Students’ Union Officer, it comes with a lot of expectations and it is virtually impossible for you to please everyone. So expect criticism and foes. Students’ Union officers must be willing and ready to sacrifice much of their time, and discharge their duties to the best of their abilities.
