The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) during its budgetary sitting on Sunday, 3rd of December in Awolowo Hall discussed the recent occurrences in Moremi Hall of Residence. The Chairperson of Moremi Hall cleared the air regarding some claims. According to her, she stated that this is the first attempted rape incident. However, this is the fifth incidence of suspicious presence in halls of residence.

She further stated that some occupants spread clothes in front of their rooms and the claim that the culprit is probably a cleaner is wrong. The culprit took one of the clothes. According to the hall Chairperson, this is the second time this particular person has come to operate in this manner.
The Clerk of the house stated that the occurrence was so saddening. He asked about the number of official personnel in the hall. The Chairperson responded that there are four in total, two people operating at a time. He further stated that the second staircase should have proper security management, and proper illumination around the hostels.

Honourable Olabest, from the Faculty of Agriculture, stated that the Management should be charged to make the CCTV cameras operative in the hall. He also recommended a committee that will consist mainly of females to be created to keep security tight. Honourable Oshodi, however, recommended an ad-hoc security committee from the SRC.
The welfare director of the Students’ Union, Folakan Paul, said the entrance alone should not only be concentrated upon. All other access like the gutters that lead into the hall should be looked at and fixed.

Thereafter, the Speaker of the House asked for the modalities of how the security committee will be structured. Honourable Oshodi, proposed a 5-man committee from the SRC.
Honourable Charles, from the Faculty of Technology, stated that volunteers from the hall should be brought up to have an eye from inside. The hall excos stated that they have ten members of the security committee
The Chairperson of the hall stated that the committee should not only consist of females, as there is a place where the male can come in.

As such, the Committee will consist of members of CEC, HEC, and SRC and will consist of both males and females which will be 10 in number. The Security Committee will operate in all halls for the session and as such, will not be referred to as ad-hoc. The Committee which will have two leaders, a male and a female was named the Inter-Hall Security Network and has the duty of tackling issues like cultism, theft, and rape amongst other things.
Honourable Ayobami from the Faculty of Arts, Honourable BJ from the Faculty of Education, Honourable Pinky from Faculty of Agriculture, Honourable Big Tos from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Moremi Chairperson, Hon Ewaoluwa, Awo Hall of Residence General Secretary, Ariyo Isaac, Honourable Precious, Honourable Iyanuoluwa (Alumni Chairperson), Welfare Director SU, Folakan Paul and Honourable Zainab from Faculty of Social sciences.
Honourable Pinky was selected as the female Chairperson and The welfare director of SU was selected as the male Chairperson.
Honourable Oshodi recommended that a state of emergency should be declared for the security of the students.
The Speaker stated that an official release will be made tomorrow, Monday, December 4 and it will contain the resolutions on the Moremi Hall issue.
