President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the provision of buses to the student bodies of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
Dele Alake, the President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications & Strategy, revealed this information in a statement on Monday.
The decision came as part of the President’s commitment to easing the burden of fuel subsidy removal on higher institution students.

According to him, “the President aims to ensure that students can access their campuses without facing significant transportation challenges due to increased costs,”
He further explained that providing buses would also help alleviate additional commuting expenses for parents and guardians.
Furthermore, in line with President Tinubu’s pledge to support Nigerian students in pursuing their education despite financial constraints, he has also approved the removal of all restrictions on students’ loans, making it accessible to any student or household in need of financial aid.

Additionally, President Tinubu has issued a directive to all federal higher learning institutions to refrain from arbitrarily increasing fees. He encouraged deferring further increases to prevent undue hardship on parents and students.
Apart from these measures, President Tinubu has previously directed the release of over 200,000 Metric Tonnes of grains to families in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The government is also working on extending conditional cash transfers and food distribution to benefit vulnerable students.
The Federal Government commends the partnership and resilience of Nigerian students during these challenging times, assuring that President Tinubu will continue to prioritize education and the needs of students, as well as invest in enhancing the welfare of teaching and non-academic staff and infrastructure in higher learning institutions to enhance global competitiveness.
