Obafemi Awolowo University has secured third place in the highly competitive University Duel, a National annual contest designed to test the intellectual capabilities of undergraduates in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) -related disciplines.
The OAU team comprising Adesina Lekan, a 200 Level student of Computer Science and Engineering, and Alli Abdulqayum and Ogungbayi Imran,100 Level students of Electrical Electronics Engineering, showcased remarkable problem-solving skills and resilience throughout the competition.
The purpose of the University Duel is to provide a platform for Undergraduate students to showcase their STEM knowledge and apply it to real-world challenges, fostering critical thinking, innovation and problem-solving skills.

OAU delivered an outstanding performance in the University Duel competition, securing a notable quarterfinal win against the University of Benin with a score of 58 to 42 on Sunday, March 16. The team advanced to the semi-finals, where they competed against Covenant University on Sunday, March 23rd. Despite a valiant effort, OAU did not progress to the final match. However, OAU faced off against Bells University on Sunday, March 30 and successfully clinched the Bronze Medal position, affirming their status as one of the top academic institutions in the country.
In earlier rounds, Abdulqayum scored an impressive 88 points, while Lekan and Imran each contributed 82 points, reflecting the team’s depth of talent. The team maintained a strong average score of 84 points throughout the competition, underscoring their consistent performance.
The University Duel continues to be a platform for recognizing outstanding intellectual talents in Nigerian Universities, and OAU’s remarkable feat in this edition of the competition further solidifies its reputation as a center for academic brilliance.
