Ife Architecture Students’ Association (IFASA) in a recent release felicitates John Adeweso, one of its esteemed members on winning the Futuropolis Architecture Design Competition.
Silver Screen on Campus: ‘Wura’ Season 2 Premieres, Creating Waves at OAU
The competition was called ‘Futuropolis – The Visionary Urban Ecosystem Design Challenge’. It was an avenue for students to meet professionals in the industry, relate with them, and work with them. The competition also aimed at building the interests of people in Architecture.
The release described John as a person who showcased his talent and creativity. It further explains how its member’s recent win is a spotlight on the class of talented students that the association is training.
Futuropolis through a post on its Instagram page described John’s work as consisting ‘of showcasing African culture with the use of a basket pattern shown from the facade which doubles as a solar shade device which contributes to sustainability and energy efficiency in the building. The wavy extrusion acts as the definition of the front elevation giving it a signature look’.

In an exclusive interview with ACJOAU correspondent, John Adeweso, shared his experience on how he got to know about the competition and his feelings after winning the competition.
ACJOAU Correspondent: So how did you come about the Futuropolis architectural design competition?
John Adeweso: Instagram post
ACJOAU Correspondent: So how was the process of participating in the competition?
John Adeweso: The registration process was pretty smooth and communication from the organizers was good, as they kept in touch from start to end.
ACJOAU Correspondent: Was there any part of the competition that you felt like you weren’t going to win?
John Adeweso: The only thing that was skeptical was that the Jurors and their citations were not revealed. It was quite difficult to understand the Philosophy of the grading system.
ACJOAU Correspondent: What are the things that your present win will most likely bring your way?

John Adeweso: I have been able to connect with industry professionals on a personal level which has expanded my exposure to different areas. I have been able to inspire my colleagues in the Architectural college and share my thought process with them.
