The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University anchored the electoral debate for the contestants vying for positions at the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), Obafemi Awolowo University.
The debate which was held at Awo Cafe on Friday, 11th of November, 2022, was organized by the electoral commission of the association (NAOSS) and witnessed a good turnout of students willing to hear and ask questions from contestants vying for various positions.
The major highlights of how the debate went for the candidates vying for positions are as follows;
- Welfare Director; Adeyemo Peter
We got to know him. Nothing more, nothing less.
- Public Relations Officer I; Omisore Elijah
Elijah stated how he’ll work cordially with the PRO II to achieve a collective goal.
- Director of Sports; Adereti Ayobami
Absent
- Director of Socials; Famuyiwa Victor and Fayemi Richard
Victor and Richard struggled to provide satisfying answers to the questions they were asked. They were unable to answer whether or not they have plans to organize any social event apart from the normal cultural day which is invariably celebrated by every association annually.
- Public Relations Officer II; Babatunde Qudus and Olasiyan Faruq
Both Faruq and Qudus came prepared for the debate. Even though one was able to articulate his points more than the other. Qudus explained succinctly how he’ll shoulder responsibilities in situations where the PRO I is unavailable. Faruq tried to answer the question but digressed to talk about the image of the association.
- Assistant General Secretary; Ayeleru Michael
Absent
- Treasurer; Busari Barakat
Barakat is unopposed. She did well, not too bad. But it is not sure she knows whether or not there is a seat for the office of the Financial Secretary, hence her task as the Treasurer is a 2-in-1 position.
- General Secretary; Yusuf Najat
Though Najat is running unopposed, there could not have been another better candidate. She answered all her questions with class and elegance. She knows what she wants to get herself into and she’s ready for the task ahead. She ate up all her questions and left no crumbs.
She was arguably the best candidate in the electoral debate.
- Vice President I and II; Akingbade Taiwo and Tejumola Ayooluwa
Absent
- President; Adesoji Praise, Oyedele Anifat and Oyeleke Opeyemi
There are three contestants for this position. Hon. Praiz, Luggard and Anifat. Narrowing it down to the debate, it’s a two-horse race with another contestant. Hon. Praiz came correct and was straight with his answers – fearless and charismatic. He was very diplomatic with his answers throughout the debate.
Luggard did well too, he tried to gain the attention of the audience but his voice wasn’t on his side. He answered some questions very well and struggled with some questions which were about the last administration in which he served as an executive member.
For Anifat, though she tried to explain her impact during the last administration of the association, she lost the attention of the audience after her introduction.
