CHE And QTS Edged Out As Best Losers As OAU SWEP Cup Proceeds To Semi-Finals

The 2023 Students’ Workshop Experience Practice Football Competition for 200L students in the Faculties of Technology and Environmental Design and Management kicked off with 12 teams from both faculties showing their football prowess and dominance.

Recall it was earlier reported by ACJOAU, that the football competition organized by the students of the two faculties is an annual competition during the SWEP program in order to foster more interpersonal relationships amongst the students of these faculties.

The football competition kicked off with group stages matches, where department of Building and department of Estate Management from the Faculty of Environmental Design And Management showed dominance by securing 7 points each from their respective group. Also, Material Science department from Faculty of Technology also showed their dominance by securing 7 points as well. Also, 2 points each were deducted from Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and Surveying and Geo-informatics for fielding ineligible players.

The top teams from the three groups representing the Faculty Of Technology were, Material Science, Electronic And Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering securing 7,4,5 and 6 points respectively.

However, Chemical Engineering and Quantity Surveying even though they put up a good fight could only secure their place in the quarter-finals as the two best loser with 4 and 3 points respectively.

OAU Management Gives Notice On Diversion Of Roads 1 And 2

The quarter-finals matches which began on 1st of August, was filled with intense actions as qualified teams locked horn with each other, so as to prove their supremacy and dominance to each other.

Consequently, Estate Management knocked out Chemical Engineering with a convincing 2-0 victory. Building proved their strength, defeating their counterpart from the department of Quantity Surveying with a goal to nil. Mechanical Engineering secured their place in the semi-finals with a 5-4 penalty shootout win after a 2-2 full time draw. Computer Science dominated the match against Material Science, with a heavy victory of 5-1.

Furthermore, the semi-finals matches are set to kick-off on Monday, 7th of August, with Estate Management battling to secure a place in the final with Mechanical Engineering as their opponent. While Building and Computer Science departments will face each other likewise the following day.

The two teams who won the semi-finals matches in each pot will advance to the final of the tournament.
